The Cornbelt Jamboree was an American country show broadcast by KMA in Shenandoah , Iowa .

history

The Cornbelt Jamboree was developed in 1945 as a replacement for the Country School , which was deposed due to the war in 1942 . The first episode of the Jamborees therefore started in 1945 from the stages of the City Auditorium in Council Bluffs. Normally a show lasted 90 minutes, half an hour of which was broadcast live on the radio. The two presenters of the show were Lou Black and Steve Wooden. Comics were delivered by "Elmer Axelbender", whose real name was Fred Warren. Ike Everly, the father of the Everly Brothers , who achieved success in the 1950s with titles such as Bird Dog and Bye Bye Love , also performed regularly at the Cornbelt Jamboree . Little Don Everly also made his first appearances in the Jamboree. Other permanent members of the show were Eddie Comer, Merl Douglas, Wayne Van Horn, Jimmy Morgan, Jerry Fronek, Zeke Williams and Joan Williams. The entrance fee for a show was 50 US cents for adults and 25 cents for children, a comparatively inexpensive pleasure, even at the time.

The End

From January 1947 the Cornbelt Jamboree was discontinued in favor of the KMA Country School. Many of the show's ensemble members switched back to the old show, the Country School. The Jamborees broadcast slot was taken over by Philadelphia’s Hayloft Hoedown .
