Cornel Bodea

Cornel Bodea (born August 29, 1903 in Vienna , † December 8, 1985 in Cluj-Napoca ) was a Romanian chemist ( organic chemistry , biochemistry ).

Life

Bodea studied chemistry at the TH Berlin-Charlottenburg and was awarded a Dr. Ing. PhD. From 1928 he was assistant and later professor for organic chemistry and biochemistry at the Agricultural University in Klausenburg (Cluj).

He dealt with phenothiazines and phenothiazones and their derivatives and with natural products such as carotenoids , in which he discovered a new class (epoxy carotenoids).

He was a corresponding member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences (1963). In 1972 he became a member of the Leopoldina .
