Cornelia Bullig

Cornelia Bullig (* 20th September 1959 in Dusseldorf as Cornelia Benecke) is a former German ultra runner .

Life

Cornelia Bullig says she started running in 1994 at the age of 35. She ran her first marathon in 1995 in Berlin and in 1997 the first run beyond the marathon distance at the 6-hour run in Stein . In 1999 she won her first 24-hour run in Cologne , and 9 more were to follow across Europe by mid-2009. Overall women's victories in almost all ultra-marathon disciplines adorn her running vita. She celebrated her greatest successes at the German Championships of the German Ultramarathon Association in the 24-hour run, winning several podium places both in the overall and in the age category. With the LG North Berlin, she was several times German team and runner-up champion in the 24-hour run. In the years 2000 to 2003 she was appointed by the DLV four times to the national team of 24-hour runners and sent to world and European challenges (unofficial world and European championships). Here she and the teams won silver twice and once bronze in the European Challenges. Their strength lay in the area of ​​24-hour, 48-hour and multi-day runs.

Their career was repeatedly interrupted by the occlusion of a pelvic artery. After three operations, she made a comeback in 2007 at the 7-day run in Athens (811 km) and at the 6-day run in Antibes (775.255 km), each with a course record and a German best performance. In 2008 she was u. a. honored by the German Ultramarathon Association as Sportswoman of the Year for her performance in Antibes. On her 50th birthday, DUV President Stefan Hinze dedicated a laudation to her on the DUV website.
