Cornelis Engelbrechtsen
Cornelis Engelbrechtsen (* 1468 in Leiden ; † 1533 there ; also Engelbrechtszoon ) was a Dutch painter.
Life
Allegedly a pupil of the Colijn de Coter . Cornelis represented late Gothic mannerism in the Netherlands. Its importance lies in overcoming rigid Gothic forms of design, in the relaxed and at the same time realistic understanding of its image content and in creating a new mood in the background landscapes.
He was the teacher of Lucas van Leyden and Aert Claesz van Leyden . The work of his two painting sons, Pieter Cornelisz (Cornelis) called Kunst and Lucas called Kok, is still largely unclear.
