Cornelius Erwin Righter

Cornelius Erwin "Swede" Righter (* 7. March 1897 in Campbell , California ; † 30th August 1985 in Englewood , Ohio ) was an American American football - basketball - and rugby union poker players and football coaches. His greatest success was the rugby Olympic victory with the US selection in 1920 .

Righter was a member of Stanford University's basketball, rugby and American football teams, and his main sport was football. As captain of the basketball team, he was the first Stanford player to be elected to the All Pacific Coast Conference selection in 1920 and 1921 and was inducted into the University Hall of Fame for his achievements.

After graduating in 1921, he was hired as the first full-time coach of the basketball and football teams at the University of the Pacific , which he stayed for 12 years.

After joining the University of the Pacific, he coached various smaller college and high school teams in northern California until his retirement in 1962. In 1935 he received his PhD in basketball training science from Stanford University.
