The Coronation Bridge (also Sevoke Bridge ) is a two-lane road bridge in the Darjeeling district of the Indian state of West Bengal . It stands about 25 km north of Shiliguri near the town of Sevoke on the National Highway 10 (formerly NH 31) leading to Gangtok in Sikkim , where it leads the NH 17 (formerly also NH 31) over the Tista . Besides the bridge in Jalpaiguri, it is the only connection to the parts of the country further east.

The Coronation Bridge is a reinforced concrete - arch bridge with a span m of about 80th It was built between 1937 and 1941 by JC Gammon Ltd , based in Bombay , according to plans by John Chambers, head of the Darjeeling Division of the Public Works Department . Its parabolic arch is founded on rock on both sides of the river. The bridge deck is raised on the arch by means of slender supports.

The foundation stone was laid on November 5, 1937 by Sir John Anderson , then Governor of Bengal . Her name is reminiscent of the coronation of George VI. on May 12, 1937.

The unsightly bridge was renovated around 2010 and painted with bold colors.
