Corpus dei papiri filosofici
The Corpus dei Papiri Filosofici greci e latini. Testi e lessico nei papiri di cultura greca e latina (CPF) is a project of the Accademia Toscana di Scienze e Lettere “La Colombaria” to collect and edit ancient philosophical texts on Greek and Latin papyri. It was founded in Florence in 1983 and financed by the University of Florence , the Ricerca Scientifica and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche . In 1987 it was sponsored by the Union Académique Internationale . The interdisciplinary collaboration of papyrologists , classical philologists and historians of ancient philosophy is fundamental to the project . The volumes are published by the Florentine publisher Olschki.
Structure of the corpus
The project consists of four parts that have not yet been fully published.
Part I includes well-known authors (in two volumes).
- I.1: The Philosophers (in alphabetical order, in three volumes, 1989, 1992, 1999). Also included are the Testimonia Herculanensia (all records of the names and works of the philosophers that appear in the Herculaneum papyri ) and the papyri that contain lists of works or names of philosophers.
- I.2: Culture and Philosophy (in alphabetical order, in several sub-volumes, 2008, 2008). This section includes authors who have influenced, or have been influenced by, philosophical culture and whose theoretical reflection and vocabulary stand out in the history of philosophy.
Part II includes Adespota (nameless fragments) as well as Gnomologies and Sentences (in several volumes, 2015, 2017):
- II.1: Text fragments (arranged according to the collection).
- II.2: Sentences and sayings of well-known authors
- II.3: Gnomologies and sentences (arranged according to the collection).
Part III comprises ancient commentaries on philosophical texts (one volume, with an index of Greek words, 1995).
Part IV includes:
- IV.1: Indices (in several volumes, 2002).
- IV.2: Tafeln (in several volumes, 2000, 2008, 2018).
Studi e Testi
In addition to the Edition of the Papyri (CPF), the project consists of a series of further studies and texts (Studi e Testi per il Corpus dei Papiri Filosofici = STCPF). This currently comprises (as of 2018) 17 volumes.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee consists of Guido Bastianini , Gábor Betegh , Antonio Carlini , Fernanda Decleva Caizzi (President), Maria Serena Funghi , Daniela Manetti , Gabriella Messeri , Franco Montanari , Glenn W. Most and David Sedley . Two of the founders have since died: Francesco Adorno (1921–2010), President from the beginning, and Manfredo Manfredi (1925–2011).
