The Corvin department store ( Hungarian Corvin Áruház ) is a listed department store in the 8th district in Budapest . It is considered to be one of the oldest and most famous in the city.

The department store opened on March 1, 1926. At that time, the owner was the Hamburg wholesaler Max Emden or his company MJ Emden und Sons, the share capital was one million pengő . Miksa Lewin acted as the first managing director. The building on Blaha Lujza tér was originally in the classical style and was built according to the plans of Zoltán Reiss. The figural jewelry came from Fülöp Ö. Beck and Szigfrid Pongrácz.

The warehouse also contained a restaurant, a coffee shop, and a speed photographer; it was also the first building in Budapest with an escalator. It was designed not only as a place to shop, but also to have fun.

The building suffered severe damage during World War II and the Hungarian People's Uprising . After 1945 it was run in a modernized form by various state ( Centrum ) and cooperative ( Skála-Coop ) retail companies. The classicist facade was clad with aluminum in 1967 and was further damaged. The aluminum cladding was dismantled in 2018 as part of an extensive renovation. The original facade has been reconstructed since then (as of 2020).

The roof terrace of the Corvin department store was used by the Corvin-tető nightclub (later Corvin Club ) from 2007 , which was expanded to the top floor of the building the following year. In 2018 the club was closed by the district administration.
