Coryphantha kracikii is a species of plant in the genus Coryphantha from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet kracikii honors the Czech cactus collector Karel Kracik.

description

Coryphantha kracikii grows individually. The spherical to short columnar shoots reach heights of up to 17 centimeters with a diameter of 9 centimeters. The 12 to 16 millimeter long, wide, conical-cylindrical warts are truncated crookedly. The axillae are initially covered with wool. The five to eight central spines are initially black with a lighter tip, then turn brown and finally gray. They are protruding, slightly curved and up to 2.5 inches long. The 24 to 26 light to dark horn-colored radial spines are coarse needle-like and up to 1.5 centimeters long. The upper twelve to 17 are somewhat bundled, are white with a darker tip and up to 2.5 centimeters long.

The yellow flowers have a red throat and reach a diameter of 4 to 8 centimeters. The olive-green fruits are lighter at their base. They have lengths of up to 2.5 centimeters and diameters of up to 1.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Coryphantha kracikii is distributed in the Mexican state of Durango on limestone soils at altitudes around 1,400 meters.

The first description by Josef Jakob Halda , J. Chalupa and Petr Kupčák was published in 2002.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
