Costa Smeralda
The Costa Smeralda is part of the north-eastern coast of Sardinia . In the north this 20 km long section is bordered by Palau and in the south by Olbia . The name comes from the emerald- like color of the water there.
The coast is very rugged and has many craggy rocks and a few fine sandy beaches. To the northwest of the marina of Porto Rafael (municipality of Palau ) the Costa Smeralda merges into the Costa Serena, which has a different character with extensive dune beaches.
Porto Cervo is the tourist center of the Costa Smeralda, which has established itself as a holiday destination for the international jet set . The goods and services are correspondingly expensive.
Parts of the James Bond film " The Spy Who Loved Me " were shot here in 1976/1977.
Every year in September the sailing regatta Rolex Swan Cup takes place here, which is organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
