Coupe Denmark

The (in German Switzerland often the ) Coupe Denmark (also: Coupe Danmark ; rare: Dame Blanche ) is a classic ice cream - dessert . Here, vanilla ice cream is poured with hot chocolate sauce in a tall glass and sometimes decorated with chocolate sprinkles.

Emergence

Nothing precise is known about the origin of the Coupe Denmark. Instead, there are some explanations that deal with the invention of the dessert. According to one of them, the Coupe Denmark is said to have originated when guests wanted a dessert after an evening event in Tivoli in Copenhagen . However, the restaurant only had vanilla ice cream, which the chef doused with a sauce of melted chocolate. The creation was accepted by the guests and was put on the menu as a fixed dish. Denmark was chosen as the name because a pastry was already named as a Copenhagener .
