Chocolate sauce is a (sweet) dessert sauce that is served warm or cold with pudding , pastries , sweet casseroles , ice cream or fruit.

Composition, methods of preparation and availability

To prepare it, grated dark chocolate is boiled with a little water and mixed with vanilla sugar and cream , possibly also a little butter or cornstarch mixed in water .

Another type of preparation is a variant of the crème anglaise . For this purpose, grated chocolate or cocoa with milk , egg yolk and sugar are whipped thick in a water bath and, after cooling, egg whites are added .

Chocolate sauce is also available in stores as an instant or finished product.
