Crepe de Chine women's robe ( Redfern , 1910)
Crêpe de Chine [ pronunciation ] , also Chinese crepe , similar or equal to Crêpe Mongole , is a textile material, a very fine , transparent semi-crepe with smooth yarn ( organsin ) in the warp and alternating 2S / 2Z twisted crepe yarn in the weft .
The surface is a little smoother, not as grainy as real crepe fabric .
Crêpe de Chine made of natural silk can be washed lukewarm and ironed from the left under a damp cloth with the setting 1 point. Often it consists of polyester texturé.
The French fashion designer Augusta Bernard (* 1886; † 1946) had great success in the 1920s and 1930s with her crêpe de chine dresses, which were preferably pastel-colored and white, cut diagonally to the grain.
