Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy

The Krakowski Festiwal Filmowy is an international film festival in Krakow specializing in documentaries , animated films and short films.

Founded in 1961, the festival is one of the oldest of its kind in Europe . It is accredited by the international film producers association FIAPF and takes place every year in May or June.

The main prize of the international competition is the Golden Dragon . In the Polish competition, the Golden Lajkonik is its counterpart. A Lajkonik (see Krakauer Lajkonik ) is a hobby horse rider who belongs to Krakow folklore. The Krakowski Festival Filmowy also has its own student competition.

The Krakow Festival is particularly important for Polish cinema as the discoverer of local directors such as Krzysztof Kieślowski .
