Crescencio Gutiérrez

Crescencio Gutiérrez Aldana (* 26. October 1933 in Guadalajara , Jalisco ) is a former Mexican football player , who from 1952 to 1962 for Chivas Guadalajara played and was part of the legendary team that in the nine years from 1957 to 1965 seven Mexican champion was and received the nickname "Campeonísimo". He was also known by his nickname "Mellone". He had received this in memory of the Paraguayan soccer player Atilio Mellone , who once played for the neighboring club Oro because their way of playing soccer was very similar.

Career

Gutiérrez usually played on the left side and was used both in midfield and in attack, where he could live out his scoring threat even better. In the 1956/57 season he scored 19 goals in 23 games and was the top scorer in the Mexican League . He was one of the central pillars of the "Campeonísimo".

He made his international debut on April 7, 1957 against the USA (6-0) and had an extremely promising start in the national team; because in his first four international matches he scored one goal each. In total, he completed 12 international matches and scored 6 goals in these.

Gutiérrez was also appointed to the squad of the Mexican national team, which traveled to Sweden for the 1958 World Cup , but was only used in the first game against the hosts (3-0). It should be his only World Cup appearance. "Mellone" also took part in a few qualifying games for the 1962 World Cup in Chile , but angrily withdrew from the national team before the World Cup, ended his football career and continued to work as an electrical engineer.
