history

Crime & the City Solution was founded in Melbourne by singer and songwriter Simon Bonney in late 1979 . The band broke up in 1979 without having released a record. In 1983 Simon Bonney moved to London and two years later founded a new version of the band with members of the recently disbanded The Birthday Party . A year after its founding, the band moved to West Berlin and recorded four albums there: Room of Lights (1986), Shine (1988), The Bride Ship (1989) and Paradise Discotheque (1990). The band split up again in 1991, before Bonney founded a band for the third time in Detroit in 2012 under the name Crime & the City Solution and released the album American Twilight with them in 2013 .

The only constant member of the band over the years was Simon Bonney. The most successful phase of the band was the middle (1985–1991) - with the variable line-up Simon Bonney (vocals), Mick Harvey (guitar, drums), Rowland S. Howard (guitar), Harry Howard (electric bass), Epic Soundtracks (drums), Bronwyn Adams (violin), Chrislo Haas (synthesizer), Alex Hacke (guitar) and Thomas Stern (electric bass).
