Epic Soundtracks (born March 23, 1959 in Croydon, Surrey , † November 5, 1997 in London ), born Kevin Paul Godfrey , was a British musician and artist.

Life

The composer and multi-instrumentalist grew up with his brother Nikki Sudden in Solihull , Midlands. In 1972 the siblings were founding members of the post-punk band Swell Maps . Epic played drums and numerous other instruments. For the group's first album (1979) he also contributed the cover artwork.

After a stopover at Red Krayola , he formed, again with his brother, the core of the band The Jacobites , with whom he recorded several records. He had been the drummer for Crime and the City Solution since 1985 , with whom he played until 1989.

In 1987 he founded These Immortal Souls with Rowland S. Howard and finally started a solo career in 1993 with various solo albums for Normal Records, which was ended by his sudden death. On tour he played with guitarist Kevin Junior and various musicians from Chicago.

Epic Soundtracks died in his sleep on November 5, 1997 in his apartment in West Hampstead, London of unknown cause of death. His funeral was held on December 1, 1997 at Leamington Spa Baptist Church.

After Epic's death, his brother Nikki Sudden released two more albums that Epic had worked on in collaboration with Russ Tolman .

Epic Soundtracks has worked on various projects with various musicians, such as: B. with members of Sonic Youth , J Mascis , Martyn Casey , Anthony Thistlethwaite , Will Pepper , Rowland S. Howard , Susanne Lewis , Bob Drake or Henry Olsen ( Primal Scream ).

His music can also be found on various compilation albums and film soundtracks , including in Wim Wenders ' film Der Himmel über Berlin , in which an appearance by Crime and the City Solution is shown.
