He published life is beautiful as his first solo title . Also in 1980 he joined the then not very well known band Einstürzende Neubauten as a guitarist .

At a concert by the Einstürzende Neubauten in Hamburg in December 1980, Alexander Hacke met the then 18-year-old Christiane Felscherinow ("Christiane F."), whose factual narrative, Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo , topped the German bestseller list at the time. Both became a couple for about two years and also performed as a music duo under the name Sentimentale Jugend .

With Christiane F., who accompanied the band on this trip, he recorded the single Wunderbar as an instrumentalist in Los Angeles . meaning

The music journalist David Pfister writes about Hacke: “He appears on the most varied of sound carriers by the most varied of artists. From klezmer folklore to country to speed metal - nothing is alien to Alexander Hacke. Hacke knows and can do everything. ” His early titles Das Leben ist schön and Hiroshima , which he wrote and published at the age of 15 and 16 respectively, earned him the reputation of a“ child prodigy ”on the Berlin underground scene at the time. Originally coming from the industrial music of the musical underground , Hacke first integrated elements of punk and the New German Wave into his music in the 1980s . Later he successfully tried his hand at a wide variety of styles, both within the Einstürzende Neubauten and in his activities outside this band, to which he has remained loyal since 1980.
