Christoph Dreher (* 1952 in Nuremberg ) is a German author , filmmaker and musician . Since 2000 he has been teaching audiovisual media .

Live and act

After studying political science and philosophy at the Free University in Berlin ( diploma 1978), he attended the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) between 1978 and 1983 .

Christoph Dreher has been producing audiovisual works as a director since 1979. When he was still a film student, these were some music videos for his band Die Haut ( Der Karibische Western ) and Nick Cave ( Tupelo , The Singer and Mercy Seat ), the film OK OK - Der Moderne Tanz (together with Heiner Mühlenbrock), the Found -Footage-Study Commercial - 40 One-Minute-Adventures in the World of TV (with Gusztav Hamos) and the feature film treatment Die Legionäre (with Ellen El Malki).

Dreher has dealt with topics of pop culture with a special focus on music in numerous documentary films and series . He conceived the series Lost in Music , which in the 1990s covered the entire spectrum of contemporary pop music and its cultures and lifestyles in a total of 18 one-hour episodes. He co-produced the series with Rolf S. Wolkenstein and directed about half of the episodes.

In 1980, together with Martin Peter, he founded the post-punk / post-rock band Die Haut , whose first line-up also included Thomas Wydler and Remo Park . The name was inspired by the book of the same name by the German-Italian author Curzio Malaparte . Apart from Dreher with changing members (the most permanent line-up was that with Dreher, Thomas Wydler, Rainer Lingk and Jochen Arbeit ) the band existed until 2000 and produced numerous recordings during this time. Actually an instrumental band whose influences ranged from bands of the 60s like Quicksilver Messenger Service , Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band or The Stooges to late 70s bands like the New Yorker DNA , they cooperated with numerous international singers such as Lydia Lunch , Nick Cave , Jeffrey Lee Pierce or Debbie Harry .

Dreher has been professor for audiovisual media at the Merz Academy for Design in Stuttgart since 2000 .
