Remo Park

Remo Park (* 1955 ; † September 20, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German musician , composer and producer . From 1981 to 1987 he made a name for himself as the avant-garde guitarist of the Berlin cult group Die Haut . He has been one of the most original German guitarists since the 1980s.

biography

Park had started making music on the recorder and saxophone until his music teacher recommended that he learn the clarinet . His mother, who promoted the musical development, later gave him a Suzuki guitar.

In 1975 Remo Park went to Berlin . There he took further clarinet and saxophone lessons with Wilhelm Grassnik (clarinetist and saxophonist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan ). In addition to these instruments, he learned from 1975 to 1981 when Patrick Dinslage, music theory and piano playing.

The skin

In addition to studying music and theater studies, Park studied composition with a focus on contemporary serious music with Peter Castine at the HdK Berlin . Remo Park (guitar) founded the avant-garde instrumental band Die Haut (based on the book Die Haut by Curzio Marlaparte from 1948) together with Martin Peter (guitar), Christoph Dreher (bass) and Thomas Wydler (drums ). Since the band was a pure instrumental band , they played u. a. performed pieces together with Nick Cave , Lydia Lunch and Birthday Party and toured Europe and America with them in 1983.

Working with Frieder Butzmann , with whom he shared his passion for experimental music and electronics, he worked on the LP War pur War . With Butzmann's support, Remo Park founded his own band.

Remo Park

Park's desire to sing made him leave Die Haut in 1987. In the same year he founded the Berlin recording studio Pyramid City Productions and in 1989 the industrial rock band Remo Park and the Chasm . Their first LP Lying in Ambush was released in 1990. "A brilliant LP on which the absolute talent of a mega guitarist became unmistakably clear, a bulwark against any minimalist machine rock" ( Spex ). After the publication, tours through Germany and the neighboring countries followed.

In 1995 Remo Park founded the record label IntenCity , through which he released his second album Aviator . He recorded this album with the drummers Olaf Kobold, Dominique Reiche and Klaus Krüger ( Iggy Pop and Tangerine Dream ), Stewart Dunlop (bass) and Eric Scholtz (keyboard, programming).

Carlos Perón (founding member of the Swiss electro band Yello ) released the remix album Aviator is chasing time in 2002 under his record label Strahlomat .

In 2011 the third album was released with Alien Healer . On it are Remo Park (vocals, guitar, keyboard, programming), Klaus Kruger (vocals, drums), Ramon Da Silvio (guitar), Eric Scholtz (keyboard, programming), Olaf Kobold (drums, programming), Domenique (drums) and Amanda Adamas (backing vocals) to hear.

In 2014 the album Witchcraft Power was released , produced with the line-up Remo Park (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboard), Eric Scholtz (keyboard, background vocals), Ramon da Silvio (guitar) and Peter Klang (drums, background vocals).
