The skin was an experimental German post-punk / post-rock band from Berlin that celebrated underground success in the 1980s and 1990s. The only constant member was Christoph Dreher . The name of the band is derived from the German title of the novel La Pelle by Curzio Malaparte .

history

Although originally founded as an instrumental (anti) rock quartet, numerous international guest singers have appeared on many of Die Haut's records and performed live.

Her last album was Spring (1997), followed by the remix album Springer (1998). Shortly thereafter, the band surprisingly broke up. Christoph Dreher and Remo Park continued to work separately, while Jochen Arbeit and Rudi Moser joined the Berlin band Einstürzende Neubauten and Thomas Wydler continues to work with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds .

  1. Steve Lake from Melody Maker called the author of the book "The strongest pen of the Italian Fascist Party". A questionable verdict, since Malaparte initially sympathized with fascism, but was soon expelled from the party and punished for his critical stance. In connection with a letter remotely reminiscent of a swastika on the cover of Burning The Ice , Lake assumed a fascist orientation of the band, a rumor that has been picked up again and again in various publications, but is otherwise not verifiable. 2. Christoph Dreher: "The guest principle is true, but the guests are still the exception when it comes to skin." (Quoted after an interview with Jutta Koether in Spex 5/1989) But elsewhere he says: "Also in the future we don't decide on a line, which we also document live with the splitting instrumentals / vocals. 3. In an interview in the intro magazine from March 1997 (issue # 42) Christoph Dreher said: “We had beaten for twelve years without a break. There were a couple of mandatory public breaks when labels collapsed or distributors went bust. This time we thought it appropriate to pause and think about what to do next. The result: yes, we want to. "
  4. Berson left the band at the end of 1982 and is only mentioned as a guest musician in some sources.
