Cristina Duarte (born September 2, 1962 in Lisbon , Portugal ) is a Cape Verdian politician , manager and UN advisor.

She is the acting, official Africa Commissioner of the United Nations .

Live and act

She is the daughter of the Cape Verdian freedom fighter Manuel Duarte, who fought for the country's independence from Portugal.

She attended elementary school in Angola , where she lived until she was 12, and then graduated from a grammar school on Cape Verde.

Duarte then studied international law and administrative sciences in the USA , where she also obtained her diploma , and in Lisbon at the local administration college.

This was followed by more than 30 years as a manager and consultant in the public and private sector . She worked for World Bank projects , was a director at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Cape Verde, was an advisor at the African Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund, and was vice-president of Citibank Angola.

In 2006 she was appointed Minister of Finance of the Republic of Cape Verde; she held the office until 2016.

Thanks to her fight against poverty, she has transformed Cape Verde from a poor country into one of the best-functioning, financially stable and safest countries on the continent within two decades. Your financial policy played a significant role in this.

She is married with two children and is fluent in Portuguese, English, Italian and French.

In 2020 she was appointed by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres as the official advisor and representative of the United Nations for the African continent.
