Crow tongue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crow Tongue is an American folk band formed in Pennsylvania in 2006 by Timothy Renner .

Career

Renner ran the experimental folk band Stone Breath since the mid-90s, with whom he had already released several albums. He brought Crow Tongue into being after he had recorded an album called "Hoofbeat, Caw, and Thunder" in 2006, which had the same Christian apocalyptic tenor as his main project, but stylistically only partially fit into the folk context of Stone Breath. Renner envisioned a hybrid style that, in addition to folk and country elements, also allowed influences from Doom , reggae and Arabic music. Rhythms should play an important role in this.

At first they experimented with various drum computers and sampled rhythms until the drummer Æ Hoskin joined them and contributed both classical drums and hand percussion, which give the overall picture a ritual, repetitive character. In addition to the percussive element, a bass banjo built by Renner himself is style-defining.

So far, Crow Tongue has released some experimental mini-albums under the title “Ditch Mix”, the first regular album was “Ghost: Eye: Seeker” in 2008, which can be seen as the missing link between the experimental EPs and the somewhat more accessible, song-oriented live material. The long player "The Red Hand Mark" followed and with "Prophecies and Secrets" a corresponding dub version followed. Almost all publications have appeared on Renner's own label Hand / Eye. The band is currently working on another album for which remixes are also planned.
