Quintessenz - Leipziger Flute Ensemble is a flute quintet from Leipzig . It consists of five musicians from the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig , the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig and the Staatskapelle Halle . The ensemble's repertoire includes pieces from every musical era and almost every style.
history
The Leipzig flute ensemble Quintessenz was founded in 1996. The British a cappella group “ King's Singers ” and the “Bamboozles”, a flute quintet made up of students from Trevor Wye, served as role models. The five Leipzig flautists were enthusiastic about the ensembles being cast with the same instruments of different voices. At first, “Quintessenz” met privately to play jazz music. Since they were all trained classically and not as jazz flutists, they quickly developed their own style. Everything they played was based on the classic flautist character from the start. Due to a lack of literature, “Quintessenz” began to arrange their own pieces. They not only worked on quintet literature, but also symphonic pieces, piano or foreign literature. So they started putting together their own programs. In 1999 "Quintessenz" recorded their first CD, four more productions followed. In 2006, “Quintessenz” took part in the British Flute Society's Flute Festival in Manchester at the invitation of Trevor Wye . Since then they have played at international festivals, including in August 2009 in New York at the Festival of the National Flute Association of the USA. For some time now, “Quintessenz” has been concentrating more and more on promoting young talent. In cooperation with the State Music Council of Saxony and Jeunesses Musicales Germany , several workshops for flute chamber music were created .
program
Due to their own musical style, the programs of "Quintessenz" also have a special character. There is always an overarching theme to which the pieces can be subordinated. This theme can be musical or composer-specific (“Mozartimento”), but can also be country-specific (“America!”) Or literature-specific (“Tour de France”). In addition, “Quintessenz” have some special programs in which they combine music and poetry (“Hymn to the Fish”, “All Birds, All”). They are supported by actors who recite poems and other texts on the respective topic. “Quintessenz” partners, for example, were Michael Mechel and Günter Schoßböck .
A special form of these programs is the “musical walk”. The audience is invited to take a walk through the landscape together, during which program items are performed at various locations. Other programs include a. “A Midsummer Night's Dream” - the program for the Mendelssohn year 2009. Excerpts from the music for “ Midsummer Night's Dream ” form the framework, supplemented with other pieces on the subject of summer, night and elf spook.
