Paul Meisen

Paul Meisen (born October 19, 1933 in Hamburg ; † June 23, 2020 in Singenbach ) was a German flautist and university teacher .

Life

Meisen studied at the Detmold University of Music with Kurt Redel . Initially flautist with the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe , Meisen was solo flautist of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg from 1954 to 1972 , in between (1962/63) of the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich . In 1960 he was awarded first prize at the ARD International Music Competition . In 1972 he received a professorship at the Detmold University of Music, and in 1981 at the Munich University of Music . After his retirement, Paul Meisen held a visiting professorship at the National University of Fine Arts and Music Tokyo from 1996 to 2003 .

On the occasion of Meisen's 75th birthday, the MDG label published a five-CD retrospective.
