Crowd manager

A crowd manager or crowd manager is a person who is responsible for the systematic planning and monitoring of an orderly movement or gathering of people. The term crowd manager was used publicly in the German-speaking area in connection with the accident at the Love Parade 2010 . Based on JJFruin (1993), Runkel & Pohl (2012: 191) proposed a German-language definition for crowd management: " Crowd management is the systematic planning and proactive implementation of the spatial organization of large gatherings of people based on continuous monitoring and analysis of mass movements and group dynamics with the aim of ensuring, protecting and maintaining the well-being of all those present and those involved ".

For crowd management, there are special courses for staff to be deployed at major events, for example by the International Maritime Organization for staff on ships.

In Rhode Island , USA, crowd managers are to be made mandatory for some clubs and bars. Similar regulations and courses are in place in Maryland. The National Fire Protection Association sees the crowd manager as an important part of security in nightclubs and other gathering-related events.
