The US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has been active in fire protection since 1896 . This not-for-profit company is headquartered in Quincy , Massachusetts, with approximately 79,000 individual members around the world and over 80 memberships from American trade and other organizations .

NFPA publishes a comprehensive set of rules on fire protection (National Fire Codes), which are mainly used in the USA . The NFPA corresponds roughly to the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection in Germany.

The NFPA calls itself "The authority on fire, electrical, and building safety".
