history

The building was built in the second quarter of the 12th century. In 1424 the church was subordinated to Whithorn Priory . After the church had been in a state of disrepair for a long time, it was John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute , who initiated its reconstruction in the 1890s.

description

The church is isolated about two miles south of Garlieston and overlooks Wigtown Bay . Its masonry is made of quarry stone with natural stone details . Much of it was rebuilt on the original foundations in the 1890s. The elongated building is divided into two parts, with the choir being a bit narrower. The dimensions of the nave are 10.7 m × 6.2 m compared to 6.4 m × 4.8 m for the choir.

All openings are designed with round arches . The individual lancet windows on the gable ends are more recent. The entrance portal on the south side is designed with column shafts. The building closes with a slate roof . The exposed wooden roof structure dates from the renovation period.
