Cryptocephalus trimaculatus is a beetle from the family of the beetle and the subfamily of cryptocephalinae (Cryptocephalinae).
Characteristics of the beetle
The beetle has a body length of 5.5–8 mm. The basic color of the beetle is black. The beetles have an oval shape. The side edge of the pronotum is narrowly curved. The pronotum is also shiny and individually dotted. The elytra are colored orange-red. There is a black spot on the front and two black spots on the same level in the back third. In some examples, these can also be connected to one another. Furthermore, the wing covers have rows of black dots in the longitudinal direction.
distribution
Cryptocephalus trimaculatus occurs in the Mediterranean region (southern France, Italy, Balkan Peninsula, Asia Minor ). In the north the distribution area extends over Austria (Carinthia, Burgenland) to Moravia and Slovakia .
Way of life
The beetles usually fly from May to July. They are usually found on the edges of forests - on hawthorn ( Crataegus ) and on various oaks ( Quercus ). In a field study in Asia Minor, the beetles were found on common hawthorn ( Crataegus monogyna ) and on Kermes oak ( Quercus coccifera ).
etymology
The name trimaculatus is derived from Latin : tri prefix for "three", maculatus means "spotty".
