Cryptocheilus versicolor is a hymenoptera fromthe wasp family (Pompilidae).

features

The animals reach a body length of 7 to 13 millimeters (females) or 7 to 11 millimeters (males). The propodeum and abdomen are colored black. The males have a slim and a squat shape.

Occurrence

The species occurs in southern and central Europe as far as Belgium and southern Poland. It colonizes dry, temperature-favored, structurally rich habitats with loess soils, semi- arid grassland , inland dunes , under- cultivated vineyards and spoil heaps. The animals fly from early June to early September. The species is rare in Central Europe.

Way of life

Females of Cryptocheilus versicolor create their nests in the sandy soil. The brood is supplied with wolf spiders . The adults are mostly to be found on wild carrots , parsnips and fatty hens .
