Cryptococcus adeliensis is a yeast from the genus Cryptococcus .

The fungus was first isolated in Terre Adélie in Antarctica . The first description was published in 2000. It differs from other Cryptococci species by its cold-adapted xylanase . As an opportunistic pathogen, the fungus, like other types of cryptococci, can trigger cryptococcosis in immunocompromised people .
