The Csepel D-344 is a medium-duty all-terrain truck from the Hungarian vehicle manufacturer Csepel , which was presented to the public in 1963 at the Leipzig trade fair . The vehicle was built from 1961 to 1975. A major customer was the Hungarian People's Army , which used the vehicle as a standard truck. The construction is considered reliable and robust.

description

The Csepel D-344 is a two-axle truck with permanent all-wheel drive built on a welded ladder frame . It has rigid axles suspended from leaf springs. The rear axle has double tires, the front axle single; the tire size of all wheels is 9.00-20.00  in . This gives the D-344 a ground clearance of 270 mm and a fording depth of 800 mm. The brake system is a dual-circuit compressed air brake system that acts on the brake drums on all four wheels. The approach angle is 35 ° for the front axle and 25 ° for the rear axle. The maximum gradeability is 44%. The truck is driven by a free-sucking 5.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with indirect injection type Csepel D-414H which its maximum torque of 33  kgf · m (324 N · m) at 1500 min -1 to write. The rated power is 95 hp (70 kW) at 2300 min -1 . The minimum fuel consumption of 190 g / PSh (258 g / kWh) is achieved at 2000 min −1 .

The torque is transmitted from the engine via a dry single-plate clutch to a manual gearbox with five forward gears. From there it is transmitted to the front and rear axles via the transfer case. The design of this transfer case is unusual, as it not only distributes the drive torque between the front and rear axles, but also contains the differential gear for the front axle. That is why two drive shafts lead to the front axle, one for each wheel. There is no differential gear in the front axle. Due to this construction, the center of gravity of the Csepel D-344 is relatively favorable. Since the all-wheel drive is permanent, the same amount of torque is transmitted to both axles. In order to transmit different amounts of torque to both axles for better traction, the transfer case can be locked. The top speed of the 5700 kg heavy vehicle is 82 km / h, the fuel consumption 28.7 l / 100 km. With a tank capacity of 215 l, one filling can cover 750 km. The payload is 3000 kg, the trailer load up to 2000 kg. Military versions of the D-344 are equipped with a winch.

Types

There are several types of the Csepel D-344, the following are the most common:

  • D-344.00: Original version with a flatbed, built from 1961 to 1966
  • D-344.01: corresponds to D-344.00, but without folding side panels
  • D-344.02: civil version without winch, increased payload
  • D-344.05: fire engine
  • D-344.22: Tropical version with more powerful radiator, double roof and balloon tires
