As Csikós (Croat. And Serb. Čikoš ), occasionally also Tschikosch , is a Hungarian horse herder . Horse herders once traveled all over the Hungarian kingdom . The Hungarian Puszta is considered the home of the horse herdsmen. They are known for their dressage performances and riding skills. Today you can still visit horseback riding shows at Hortobágy or Tahitótfalu .

An example of the artistic achievements of the horse herdsmen is the formation of the Hungarian Post , in which the Csikós stands on the back of two horses while he trots three other horses in front of him as a team. (See also the name of the composition Csikós Post , a gallop by Hermann Necke).

The csikós is after the cattle herdsman (ung. Gulyás ) the most respected among the Hungarian shepherds.
