Ctenoides is a shell - genus from the family limidae (Limidae). The oldest fossil representatives of the genus are known from the Upper Jura .

features

The equilateral, almost equilateral housings are slightly ovoid to rounded triangular in outline, and higher than long. The cases are only moderately curved, but can also be a bit flattened. They have a clear byssus opening on the front edge below the lock edge; the edges of the case are bent outwards in the area of the byssus opening. The two "ears" (appendages) on either side of the vertebra are well separated from the body of the case. They are approximately the same size or the front "ear" is slightly smaller than the back ear . The edge of the lock is very narrow. There is a moderately large lateral tooth in the lock.

The ornamentation consists of numerous, tightly standing, radial ribs that can diverge towards the edge of the case. Here new ribs intervene in the gaps. The ribs are rounded at the top and are knotty or scaly.

Geographical distribution, habitat and way of life

The genus is distributed worldwide in all seas. The species of the genus live with byssus pinned to the underside of overhanging rocks or in crevices.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described by Otto Andreas Lowson Mørch . The MolluscaBase lists the following species belonging to the genus:
