Cuadecuc, vampir is a Spanish experimental film directed by Pere Portabella from 1971, which was made by Jess Franco as a kind of alternative making-of to the film Night when Dracula Awakes . The film was shot in high-contrast, sometimes very grainy black and white and often uses recordings made according to the takes of the film being watched, but sometimes also scenes between the actual shooting, in order to deconstruct the commercial film and its reception. The images are reminiscent of older film adaptations of the Dracula material, but at the same time have an unmasking effect, as they show the filming process.
“Cuadecuc” is Catalan and means “worm end”, or (unused) end of a film reel.
