Cuberdon
A cuberdon is a cone-shaped Belgian sweet that is often referred to as “ Neuzeke ” ( nose) because of its similarity to a nose in Flanders . In Belgian French , the sweet is also known as "chapeau de curé" .
Typically cuberdons are reddish-purple in color and about 2.5 cm wide; the weight is 10–18 g. The matt, velvety surface of the cuberdon is hard, the contents sticky, jelly-like.
Manufacturing
During production, the sugar mass is stirred in large kettles and flavorings and gum arabic are added as a thickening agent. The negative shape of the cone shape is pressed into starch using an original mold, into which the melted mass is then poured. After solidification, the "Neuzekes" are separated from the starch. The classic flavor is raspberry , but cuberdons are also offered in more than 30 other flavors.
Economical meaning
Cuberdons have been recognized as a regional agricultural product by the Vlaams Centrum voor Agro- en Visserijmarketing . Due to the limited shelf life of around three weeks, cuberdons are not exported and are practically only available in Belgium. To celebrate the Belgian EU Presidency , Cuberdons were distributed to the population in the capitals of the European Union on September 18, 2010.
