The ridge is located on the territory of the departments of Florida and San José . It extends from the Cuchilla Grande Inferior branching off from Ombúes de Castilla to the south to the headwaters of the Arroyo de la Virgen and forms the border region of the two departments. It then extends east of the Arroyo de la Virgen and west of the Río Santa Lucía Chico further south. The villages of 25 de Mayo , Cardal and Independencia are located in this area . It ends opposite the Paso Juan Chazo at 25 de Agosto . From kilometer point 77 of the Ferrocarril Central railway line , the area is now referred to as Cuchilla del Cardal .
