Independencia is a town in Uruguay .

geography

Independencia is located in the Florida Department in Sector 13 in the Cuchilla del Pintado . The Río Santa Lucía runs a short distance southeast . The place is located in the extreme southwestern tip of the department not far from the border to the neighboring Canelones . The closest settlement to the north is Cardal , to the south is 25 de Agosto . Some distance to the west flows the Arroyo de la Virgen .

history

The place was founded on September 13, 1874 by Florencio Escardó and E. Cremieux.

Infrastructure

The Montevideo - Paso de los Toros railway line runs through the town .

The population of Independencia is 396 (as of 2011), of which 194 are male and 202 are female.
