Culture
Culture is a Jamaican reggae band. The band was founded in 1976 by Joseph Hill . The band was originally called African Disciples. The band members were or are:
- Joseph Hill (lead singer),
- Albert Walker (background singer),
- Kenneth Dayes (background singer).
Shortly after the formation, they began to work with Joe Gibbs and Eroll Thompson, the "Mighty Two", and released a few singles and finally in 1977 their debut album "Two Sevens Clash". Inspired by the Rastafarian thinker Marcus Garvey , the song prophesied the end of the world when the number seven came together on July 7, 1977. The album had a major impact on the UK music scene.
During her career, Culture worked with producer Sonia Pottinger and many well-known musicians, such as Robbie Shakespeare , Sly Dunbar , Ansel Collins, Cedric Brooks and the percussionist Sticky. In 1982 the band separated to realize various solo projects. In 1986 the members got back together and released many more albums. The band was present on many stages around the world and to be found at many festivals around the globe. In August 2006, the front man and band founder Joseph Hill died suddenly and surprisingly on their European tour in Berlin . His part in the band has since been taken over by his son Kenyatta Hill.
