Joseph Hill, 2000

Joseph Hill, who had gained studio experience as a percussionist with the Soul Defenders in Coxsone Dodd's famous Studio One since the early 1970s , founded the reggae band Culture in 1976 . Under Hill, Culture produced a total of 30 albums and he wrote the majority of the songs himself. He became internationally known for his 1977 album Two Sevens Clash, which not least left its mark on the emerging punk movement.

He died suddenly of a heart attack on August 19, 2006 in Berlin while he was on tour with his band in Europe. The tour continued in his honor, however, and his role was taken over by his son Kenyatta.
