Cundpald chalice

The Cundpald chalice is a measuring chalice that is believed to date from the late 8th century. It was probably made in a Bavarian monastery . During the time of the Avars he came to Hungary. In 1879 it was found in the course of regulation work by the Ikva near Petőháza in Győr-Moson-Sopron County in northwestern Hungary . It is owned by the Liszt Ferenc Múzeum in Sopron .

The 11.8 cm high goblet is chased from red copper and fire-gilded . He wears a circumferential braided band zone . On each of the braids there are four loop-like and circular patterns with berry-like ends. The inscription: + CUNDPALD FECIT is on the chalice .
