History and etymology
The Sayce family was one of the earliest settlers in the area. In 1890 she settled on Abbot Road, where the youth center is now. In 1921 a boy was washed into the sea by heavy rains from the Curl Curl Lagoon. Then the population decided to start a surf club.
Curl Curl could have developed from the term "curial curial" of the Dharug , which translated means flow of life .
With Curl Curl Lagoon in formerly Queenscliff opens into the sea Manly Lagoon meant. Today's Curl Curl Lagoon was referred to as Harbord Lagoon, which is due to the then somewhat larger suburb of Harbord, now Freshwater .
Protection of water quality
Several measures have been implemented to protect water quality: construction and maintenance of the GPT, planting native plants along the banks, construction of a rock weir , construction of a wooden bridge and platform, and working with community members to reduce pollution.
leisure
There are many parks and sports facilities around the lake.
