geography

On site

North Curl Curl is bordered by Dee Why to the north, Curl Curl to the south, and Brookvale and North Manly to the west . To the east lies the Pacific . The Curl Curl Lagoon and Greendale Creek separate the village from Curl Curl. North Curl Curl and Curl Curl have different postcodes, so they are considered separate suburbs.

North Curl Curl has a coastline of about 900 meters in length, most of which consists of cliffs and rocks. Only a very small part of the coast is a beach.

North Curl Curl Rockpool

On the southern rock is the North Curl Curl Rockpool , a 25 by 25 meter swimming pool carved into the rock. In this rock pool, a flat rock rises out of the water in the middle, which is unique. The rock pool is only accessible from the beach at low tide ; at high tide it can only be reached via a path over the headland . Because of the difficult access, the Rockpool is not cleaned by the competent council. It was closed for a few weeks after the June storms in 2016 because the waves had moved a rock the size of a minibus. This was actually on the edge of the pool. It was difficult to remove because of the rotation. The use of explosives was considered.

History and etymology

Curl Curl could have developed from the term "curial curial" of the Dharug , which translated means flow of life .

With Curl Curl Lagoon in formerly Queenscliff opens into the sea Manly Lagoon meant. Today's Curl Curl Lagoon was referred to as Harbord Lagoon, which is due to the then somewhat larger suburb of Harbord, now Freshwater .
