Curl Curl is a suburb of Sydney in the state of New South Wales , Australia and is located 18 kilometers northeast of the Central Business District (CBD) of Sydney. It belongs to the Northern Beaches .

Curl Curl Lagoon and Greendale Creek separate Curl Curl from North Curl Curl . Neighboring suburbs are Freshwater , Brookvale and Dee Why . Curl Beach Curl forms the eastern border.

Beach

The beach is divided into North and South Curl Curl. Curl Curl is considered to be one of the best spots for surfing on the Northern Beaches.

Curl Curl Beach has two volunteer-run Surf Life Saving Clubs . The South Curl Curl SLSC was founded in 1918, the North Curl Curl SLSC in 1922. In addition, the Warringah Council is deploying professional water rescue workers from the end of September until ANZAC Day on April 25th. There are rock pools filled with salt water at both ends of the beach .

history

The name Curl Curl was likely the original Aboriginal name for the Manly Vale , Freshwater and Queenscliff area . Curl Curl could have developed from the term "curial curial" of the Dharug , which translated means flow of life .

The Manly Lagoon , which is connected to the Pacific at Queenscliff, was originally called the Curl Curl Lagoon , while today's Curl Curl Lagoon was called Harbord Lagoon until it was renamed in the 1980s .

population

According to the 2016 census, 2414 people lived in Curl Curl. The majority were born in Australia (70.1%), the others were from England (6.2%), New Zealand (2.1%), the United States (1.5%) and South Africa (1.5%) . Family households make up the majority of households at 78.2%. The rest are single households and shared apartments.

Sport and recreation

There are parks and sports facilities along the Curl Curl Lagoon and Greendale Creek . Originally, it was low-lying, swampy terrain that was filled with waste in the 1950s to 1960s in order to make further land usable.

The Curl Curl Youth Club (also: Curl Curl Football Club ) is an association for football and netball . It has existed since 1958 and has several courses on Abbott Road in North Curl Curl and Adams Street.

The Curl Curl Amateur Swimming Club , founded in 1966, holds various swimming events from mid-October to the end of March. The club uses the pools of the South Curl Curl Rock Pool .

Public transport

Curl Curl is served by four bus routes: the 136 from Manly to Chatswood, 139 from Manly to Warringah Mall , E65 from South Curl Curl to the Sydney CBD and route 159 from Manly to Dee Why.

schools

The Freshwater Senior Campus is attended by Grade 11 and 12 students from Northern Beaches Secondary College and is located on the corner of Harbord Road and Brighton Street.

The Stewart House at Curl Curl Beach is in the public school students from New South Wales and the means Australian Capital Territory are supervised (ACT) for twelve days after filing through their respective school principals. The main purpose of the stay at the Stewart House is to build up self-esteem and social skills, but it also includes preventive medical care. The students attend the integrated school for eight days.

The Curl Curl North Public School is an elementary school on Playfair Road (near Abbot Road).
