The cursinu is not from the FCI recognized dog breed from Corsica , France . The French umbrella organization Société Centrale Canine (SCC) leads the breed in group 5, section 7 .
Origin and history
The Cursinu probably goes back to the ancient Saupackers who were used for hunting and as guard and protection dogs. Islands like Corsica were frequented by pirates, so that strong dogs were needed for defense. Originally it was also used to drive cattle and as a herding dog. Today, however, it is more used for hunting. In 2003 this breed was recognized in France by the Société Centrale Canine.
description
The Cursinu has a light but robust-looking, medium-sized physique (up to 55 cm tall). Its fur is straight and short to medium-haired and usually brown-brindle. The chest is sometimes white or white-mottled, but this is considered a flaw.
Essence
This dog is very territorial, suspicious of strangers and seems rather insecure in a strange environment. He defends his master's property with extreme fierce. He is unfriendly and intolerant towards foreign dogs. The Cursinu is intelligent, calm indoors, but develops a lively temperament outdoors. He needs his territory or work on the hunt - without a proper task he is an uncomfortable companion. The Cursinu is rather unsuitable as a family dog.
