The Cutler Stack is a surf pillar ( English stack ) off the north coast of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises northeast of Lair Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him on July 7, 1959 after Benjamin Sheffield Cutler (1800-1860), partner in the brig Frederick and captain of the schooner Free Gift , both of which operated from 1821 to 1822 in the waters around the South Shetland Islands .
