The Lair Point is a headland of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . On the north side of the Byers Peninsula , it is 8 km southeast of Essex Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave the headland a descriptive name in 1962. As the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey between 1957 and 1958 found on the basis of remains, a large cave on this headland served sealers as a hiding place ( English lair ) in the 1820s .
