The Cyberforum eV (spelling CyberForum eV) is a non-profit association that focuses on the transfer of knowledge and the exchange of experiences between company founders, growth companies and experienced entrepreneurs, universities and research institutions as well as cities and communities. The association acts primarily as a network for companies in the high-tech and IT sector in the Karlsruhe technology region and describes itself as a "high-tech.entrepreneur.Network". The Cyberforum is regionally, but also nationally and internationally active as a network and within the framework of various cooperations. Due to its size of more than 1,200 members and its level of activity, the network can be described as the leading IT network in Europe.

Members and association structure

The network of the Cyberforum includes around 1000 members from the greater Karlsruhe area. Small and small companies, medium-sized companies as well as large companies are among the members. The majority of the members can be assigned to the ICT industry. Cities and municipalities, institutions, research facilities as well as universities and colleges are also members of the network.

The association is supported by membership fees, contributions from supporters and sponsors, as well as project-related funding. He is funded by the Hoepfner Foundation, the city of Karlsruhe, the city of Bruchsal and the district of Karlsruhe.

David Hermanns has been the managing director of the Cyberforum since 2007. The honorary board of the association is made up of personalities from business, politics and administration and is elected by the general assembly. The executive board is made up of eight people, the entire board comprises a further ten people. Matthias Hornberger, a member of the management of Atevia AG and Kizoo Technology Ventures , has been the CEO since 2010 .

history

The Cyberforum was founded on July 4, 1997 by ten partners from science, research, business, administration and finance, initially in the form of a public-private partnership . The initiator was Dr. Friedrich Georg Hoepfner. The founding members are: Vollack Management- und Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. , Multimedia Association Baden-Württemberg, Sparkasse Karlsruhe , Volksbank Karlsruhe eG , Privatbrauerei Hoepfner GmbH & Co.KG , University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe - HfT (today Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences), University of Karlsruhe (today KIT), Research Center for Computer Science (FZI) at the University of Karlsruhe , Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH (today KIT) and the City of Karlsruhe .

In the early years, the association's work focused primarily on supporting young entrepreneurs in setting up their own businesses, a field of activity that is still very important today. Over the years, both the number of members and the range of tasks of the Cyberforum grow.

In 2010 the Cyberforum for the North Baden region took part in the application of the software cluster "Software innovations for the digital company", which is coordinated in Darmstadt. The cluster wins the federal government's top cluster competition . The North Baden regional coordination office of the software cluster is still part of the Cyberforum.

Cyberforum Service GmbH was founded in 2011, a 100% subsidiary that offers services such as help with preparing funding applications and cluster management, making it possible to separate non-profit and business-promoting projects. The Smart Business IT initiative funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg will also start in 2011, as will the Finish IT qualification program.

In 2013, the Cyberlab was launched as an incubator for start-ups. Also in 2013, the Cyberforum was recognized as the best cluster in Baden-Württemberg and the leading IT network in Europe, as well as being awarded the “Cluster Management Excellence Label Gold” from the European Cluster Excellence Initiative.

The association is also a member of the “go-cluster” initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
