history

In 1833 Johannes Gollnow founded a craft business in Stettin . This resulted in a steel construction company under the name of J. Gollnow & Sohn , which specialized in bridge construction and steel construction and expanded its activities across Europe. In 1945 Gollnow & Sohn made a fresh start in steel construction at Karlsruhe's Rheinhafen . In 1968 Gollnow & Sohn became Vollack Stahlhochbau. The engineer Rudolf Vollack from Stettin and his partner Heinrich Weick continued their activities in steel building and bridge construction. In 1988 Manfred Bähr and Hans Bretz took over Vollack Stahlhochbau as the main shareholder. The establishment of a network of locations in Germany began in the 1990s. The focus of activity shifted from steel construction to the strategic development, planning and construction process of office and industrial buildings according to the methodical design + build approach. The two main shareholders of Vollack, Manfred Bähr and Hans Bretz, withdrew from the operative business at the end of 2011. Vollack repositioned itself under the direction of Reinhard Blaurock, who has been a managing partner since 2008. In addition to the existing branches in Karlsruhe, Cologne / Wesseling, Düsseldorf / Ratingen, Eisenach, Leipzig / Radefeld and Mihla, further branches were opened in Berlin / Brandenburg, Hamburg and Munich / Ismaning and the regional presence was further expanded. Vollack GmbH & Co. KG is a member of the trade association for industrial companies in Baden .

Cultural engagement

In 2018, the Vollack Group launched the Karlsruhe Multiple art project as part of corporate social responsibility, which it has been implementing since then in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden and the State Majolica Manufactory. The ceramic sculpture I am an elephant by Anna Dorothea Klug, which is intended to draw attention to the threat to the Asian elephants, was the first Karlsruhe Multiple that was realized in 2018. As part of the project, the sculpture Katzenbär by the artist Daniel Wagenblast was implemented in 2019. In 2020 the character Change! for the protection of the Humboldt penguin from the hand of the sculptor Klaus Gutowski. All sculptures are sold as small figures, so-called "multiples" in an edition of 100 for the benefit of the species protection foundation Zoo Karlsruhe at the art fair in Karlsruhe in the respective year. As large sculptures, they are a gift to the zoo and city garden, where they gradually form a sculpture park.

An earlier art project is the Ettlinger Tor sculpture by the sculptor Andreas Helmling. The bright blue, 80-ton installation was created by Helmling on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Baden Revolution. It was created in 1998 on the initiative of Vollack and with the support of 40 other companies in the region and handed over to the city. Today the sculpture has its place on the Karlsruhe Südtangente . Its shape is reminiscent of the historic Ettlinger Tor , the southernmost of the former six historic city gates of the fan- shaped city.
