The Volksbank Karlsruhe eG based in Karlsruhe is one of the oldest cooperative banks in Baden . It was founded in 1858 as the advance payment association Carlsruhe. In 2017, Spar- und Kreditbank eG, Karlsruhe, merged with Volksbank Karlsruhe.

The main office of the cooperative bank is located at Ludwig-Erhard-Allee 1, 18 staffed and 30 self-service points are also operated.

In the period from 2000 to 2010, branches of Volksbank Karlsruhe were attacked four times by so-called gentlemen robbers , two of them the branch in Landauer Strasse in Karlsruhe's north-west town. In their last attack on December 10, 2010 on the Karlsruhe branch at Karlstor, the two perpetrators were killed in an exchange of fire with the police.

In June 2017, the general meetings of the two banks involved decided to merge Spar- und Kreditbank Karlsruhe with Volksbank Karlsruhe retrospectively from January 1, 2017, whereby the merged bank will continue to use the name Volksbank Karlsruhe. In operational terms, the merger took effect at the end of October 2017.

In July 2020, the general meetings of the two banks involved decided to merge Spar- und Kreditbank Hardt with Volksbank Karlsruhe with retroactive effect from January 1, 2020, whereby the merged bank will continue to be called Volksbank Karlsruhe.
